I want to alleviate suffering

There can be nothing worse for parents than to have to accept the diagnosis of cancer for their child and then watch how this child is subjected to the physical as well as psychological strains of chemotherapy before dying. Many years ago, in order to stop this, I decided to develop a new non-toxic preparation against cancer. I have produced and patented approximately 400 new compounds – I named the most effective of them after my home country Ukraine ("Ukrain").

One of many medical histories particularly distressed me. In 1995 three year-old Stefan Dan was discharged from hospital with the diagnosis "generalised lymph angiomatosis" and the news from the doctors that all forms of therapy had been exhausted. To "comfort" his parents, they were told that he would never in his life be able to speak or walk. After two years of Ukrain therapy with a general practitioner the child could most certainly speak and also walk. While at a check-up examination at the hospital, the parents were forced to break off therapy with Ukrain with threats of fines under reference to unlawful decrees issued by the Austrian Ministry of Health between 1986 and 1994 - although no other form of therapy could be offered. The tumour then began to grow and caused compression of the spinal cord. Stefan, who was now eight years old, was operated on. Despite the surgical intervention the condition of the young patient continually deteriorated so that he had to be connected to a respirator. He became paralysed by a transverse lesion of the cord. In this condition the child was discharged to be cared for at home. He had to be given morphine four times a day to alleviate the pain and his breathing supported through a respirator. The doctors now recommended the parents to turn to Ukrain therapy after all. The child's condition could be improved by treatment with Ukrain, Stefan can speak, but he will never be able to walk again.

The short summary of this medical history at the end of the book (see "Summary of the Medical History of S.D.") documents the sad fate of the young patient who will remain paralysed for life because Ukrain therapy was forbidden to him. Can one continue to look on and do nothing while child and adult cancer patients who have been given up by traditional medicine are denied a very promising form of treatment? Since Ukrain is produced from two approved basic substances and has been proved to be one hundred times less toxic than these basic substances and is also very effective, I applied for the registration of the preparation in Austria in 1976 for the treatment of cases where conventional treatment had been exhausted. Instead of approving my application and helping those affected with the preparation, the responsible health authorities and professional organisations have done their utmost to prevent the use and distribution of the medicine in Austria, its country of origin – and thereby also automatically in other countries.

This book presents the efficacy of Ukrain with well documented cases and describes the permanent attempts to hinder me in my work. The only support that I have ever received in Austria is thanks to the civil courage of the former head of the research department at the Ministry of Science, Dr. Norbert Rozsenich. Many readers of previous editions of "Who's Afraid of a Cure for Cancer?" have expressed their shock at what they read. However, having to look on over the years at the suffering of those affected was still worse. Every year, 200 children are diagnosed with cancer in Austria. Some of them could be helped by Ukrain. Even if I had only been able to help one single child like Stefan, that would be sufficient reason not to capitulate. I will not give up!
